The waterfall is also associated with legends concerning Kobo Daishi (Kukai), the influential Buddhist monk who founded the Shingon school of Buddhism. Tendaki is mentioned in historical and religious texts, including the *Origin of Hase-dera Temple* and the *Records of En no Gyoja*. The waterfall became more widely recognized after appearing in the opening sequence of the NHK television drama *Futari Ko* in 1996.
