Kei Beach is a scenic sandy beach in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, known for its beautiful stretch of white sand backed by green pine trees. Located within San’in Kaigan National Park and the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark area, it is surrounded by a rich natural environment and is a popular destination for summer seaside recreation. Locally nicknamed “K Beach,” it attracts visitors looking to swim, camp, and enjoy the coastal scenery.
Kei Beach lies between the Maruyama River, which flows through the Tajima region into the Sea of Japan, and the Kehi River. Its gently sloping, shallow shoreline and relatively calm waves make it an inviting place for families and children to enjoy the sea. The contrast between the pale sand, blue water, and surrounding pine trees creates a peaceful landscape that is ideal for relaxing by the coast.
Before Toyooka City expanded through a municipal merger in 2005, Kei Beach was known as the city’s only beach for swimming. It remains a popular summer destination, attracting families, young people, and other visitors who want to enjoy the seaside.
The beach also serves as a camping area, with flush toilets and a cooking facility available for visitors. During the summer season, beachside huts open, providing places to take a break and refresh after spending time in the sun and water. In addition to swimming and camping, the area has a ground golf course, offering another way to enjoy the outdoors.
The Toyooka Port Tourism Association formerly organized the Kei Beach Grand Treasure Hunt, an event traditionally held around Marine Day on July 19. It provided entertainment and memorable experiences for visitors, but the event does not appear to have been held in recent years. Travelers interested in local events should check for current announcements before planning a visit.
Kei Beach offers facilities for both day visitors and campers. Amenities include one flush toilet facility, one cold-water shower, and seasonal beach huts. The campsite can accommodate approximately 150 groups, while the parking area has space for around 400 vehicles. A ground golf course is also available for outdoor recreation.
By car: Kei Beach is approximately seven minutes by car from Kinosaki Onsen Station on the JR San-in Main Line.
By bus: From Kinosaki Onsen Station, take a Zentan Bus bound for Mihara or Kehi and get off at the Kei-no-Hama stop. The beach is approximately a five-minute walk from the bus stop.
Kinomaki Shrine is a historic shrine near Kei Beach and is counted among the five major shrines of the Tajima region. Deeply respected by local residents, it offers visitors an opportunity to explore the area’s religious traditions and cultural heritage alongside a seaside outing.
Kinosaki Marine World is a popular marine attraction where visitors can encounter sea life and enjoy a variety of interactive experiences and shows. Suitable for both children and adults, it makes an excellent addition to a day trip to Kei Beach.
Hyogo Prefectural Maruyama River Park is another nearby destination for enjoying the natural environment. With its scenic surroundings and opportunities for walking and picnicking, it is a pleasant place to relax and spend time outdoors with family or friends.
With its white sand, pine-lined shoreline, and shallow waters, Kei Beach is an appealing destination for visitors exploring Toyooka and the Kinosaki Onsen area. Swimming is especially popular in summer, while camping and ground golf provide additional outdoor activities. Combined with nearby shrines, marine attractions, and riverside recreation, the beach offers a relaxing way to experience the natural beauty of northern Hyogo Prefecture.
