Kaki Yōkan (Persimmon Jelly) (Sweets Tsuchiya) - Okashi Tsuchiya

A Historic Japanese Confection Made with Premium Dried Persimmons

Kaki yōkan is a traditional Japanese sweet made with persimmons, a fruit for which Gifu Prefecture is well known. This celebrated confection from O-kashi Tsuchiya uses Dōjō Hachiya persimmons, a premium variety of dried persimmon historically presented as a tribute to the Imperial Court and shoguns.

Often regarded as the finest of dried persimmons, Dōjō Hachiya is prized for its rich, concentrated sweetness. Kaki yōkan makes the most of this natural sweetness, creating a distinctive treat with a deep persimmon flavor.

A Tradition Dating Back to 1838

O-kashi Tsuchiya is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop founded in 1755. In 1838, the shop’s makers recognized the intense sweetness of Dōjō Hachiya dried persimmons and developed a yōkan using the fruit as its main ingredient.

This innovation became a signature confection, preserving the distinctive flavor of premium dried persimmons in a smooth, richly flavored sweet.

Beautiful Color and Traditional Presentation

Kaki yōkan has an attractive orange color that evokes the fruit from which it is made. Each bite offers the concentrated sweetness and characteristic flavor of persimmons.

It is available in traditional bamboo containers as well as convenient paper boxes, making it suitable both for enjoying at home and for giving as a Japanese souvenir or gift.

A Taste of Gifu’s Confectionery Heritage

Combining a centuries-old confectionery tradition with one of Gifu Prefecture’s most prized agricultural products, O-kashi Tsuchiya’s kaki yōkan offers visitors a delicious way to discover the region’s food culture.
