The Feather Museum is the world’s first comprehensive museum dedicated to cutting tools. Operated by Feather Safety Razor Co., Ltd., a company founded in 1932, this interactive corporate museum specializes in razors and precision cutting instruments.
Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by two iconic displays: the Giant Feather and an enormous shaving razor. The two-story building has a total floor area of approximately 1,400 square meters and houses more than 10,000 exhibits, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about cutting tools they use in everyday life. The giant razor monument is built at 30 times the size of an actual razor.
The museum features a wide variety of exhibits and interactive activities centered on the concept of “cutting.” Visitors can experience different cutting methods, including cutting by pressing, cutting by pinching, and cutting by shaving or scraping.
There are also fascinating interactive experiences and three-screen multimedia presentations exploring the many ways cutting is used in everyday life. Exhibits introduce cutting tools from the Stone Age to the present day, as well as tools from around the world. Visitors can also discover the future possibilities of cutting technology.
On the second floor, visitors can take on the challenge of “Quiz! Challenge the Beard Professor.” Twelve questions about cutting are presented in random order. Even adults may find it difficult to answer every question correctly, but the challenge is well worth trying.
The Beard Professor is modeled after Masahisa Kishida, the 10th president and representative director of Feather Safety Razor Co., Ltd.
