Roadside Station Pokapoka Land Miasa

A Mountain Retreat with Hot Springs and Accommodation

Roadside Station Pokapoka Land Miasa is a multifunctional roadside rest area in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, located along Nagano Prefectural Route 31. Surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery at the foot of the Northern Alps, it offers much more than a place to take a break.

The facility combines a hot spring, accommodation, restaurant, and tourist information services, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Northern Alps, Azumino, Hakuba, and Nagano. It is also used by hikers, drivers, business travelers, and winter sports enthusiasts looking for a place to relax along their journey.

More Than a Roadside Rest Stop

Pokapoka Land Miasa functions as a convenient base for sightseeing in the surrounding mountain region. Its location provides easy access toward Hakuba and Nagano, as well as the Azumino area.

During winter, it is also a popular place to stay or rest for visitors enjoying skiing and snowboarding. Travelers can relax in the hot springs after spending the day outdoors and enjoy a comfortable meal before continuing their journey.

Relax in the Hot Springs

The facility features a spacious hot spring bathing area with a variety of baths, including an open-air bath, massage bath, and sauna. It provides an ideal way to unwind after driving, hiking, skiing, or sightseeing in the mountains.

A Bath Featuring Hokutoseki

One of the distinctive features is the Hokutoseki bath. Hokutoseki is a rare mineral designated as a Special Natural Monument of Japan. Authentic, high-purity Hokutoseki is used in the bath facility.

For travelers interested in Japan’s traditional bathing culture, this offers an opportunity to experience a relaxing hot spring while learning about a distinctive natural material associated with the region.

Stay Overnight Surrounded by Nature

Pokapoka Land Miasa also offers a variety of accommodation options, including Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, and cottages with private open-air baths.

The cottages allow guests to enjoy a greater sense of privacy while remaining close to the surrounding natural landscape. They are particularly suitable for families and groups who want to spend more time exploring the Northern Alps without having to travel far at the end of the day.

With comfortable facilities comparable to a hotel, the accommodation provides a convenient base for multi-day trips around Omachi, Hakuba, and Azumino.

Enjoy Local Flavors at Restaurant Asa no Sato

The on-site restaurant, Asa no Sato, makes use of seasonal ingredients from Nagano and the surrounding mountains. Local specialties include Shinshu beef, Shinshu salmon, and Hakuba pork, while vegetables are sourced from the local area and grown using the pure snowmelt water of the Northern Alps.

The menu changes monthly, allowing returning visitors to discover different seasonal flavors.

Shinshu Soba

Shinshu soba is another specialty. Made with locally produced buckwheat flour, the handmade noodles have a distinctive fragrance and flavor.

The experience is especially appealing during the shin-soba season, when freshly harvested buckwheat is milled and used to make particularly aromatic soba.

Local Game Cuisine

The restaurant also serves local game dishes, offering visitors another opportunity to experience the flavors of the mountainous region and the natural resources of Nagano.

Convenient Facilities for Road Travelers

As a roadside station, Pokapoka Land Miasa is equipped with facilities designed to make long-distance travel more comfortable.

The large parking area accommodates 84 regular vehicles and 8 large vehicles, with two spaces reserved for visitors with disabilities. There are also 23 men’s toilets, 12 women’s toilets, and one accessible toilet.

A public telephone is also available, making the facility a convenient and reassuring stopping point during a long drive through the mountain region.

A Gateway to the Mountain Region

Pokapoka Land Miasa also serves as a source of local tourism and road information. Because it stands near the entrance to mountainous and snowy areas, it can be a useful place to check road conditions and gather information about nearby attractions.

The facility also supports the local community by offering locally produced agricultural goods, including surplus organic and pesticide-free vegetables and mountain vegetables. In this way, it serves not only travelers but also as a place where visitors can discover the character and produce of the Miasa area.

Open Throughout the Year

The facility is generally closed on the fourth Wednesday of each month. When that day falls on a national holiday, the closure is moved to the following day.

The hot spring facility, however, remains open even on the regular facility closure day. This makes it possible for travelers to stop by for a bath even when other services are closed.

With different scenery and activities in every season, Miasa is a year-round destination, and Pokapoka Land provides a convenient place to rest during any season.
