Ueno Sky Bridge is a pedestrian suspension bridge in Ueno Village, Tano District, Gunma Prefecture. Located within the resort area known as the “Sky Corridor”, the bridge stretches dramatically across a deep mountain valley.
Completed in April 1998, the bridge measures 225 meters in length and reaches approximately 90 meters above the ground. It connects Kawawa Nature Park with Mahoba no Mori and has become one of Ueno Village’s most popular sightseeing attractions.
As you step onto the bridge, the first thing that catches your eye is the expansive blue sky and the vast forests and valleys stretching out below.
Standing approximately 90 meters above the ground creates the exhilarating sensation of walking through the sky. The mountain scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, offering fresh greenery in spring, deep green forests in summer, brilliant autumn foliage, and crisp, clear winter landscapes.
Each season gives the surrounding mountains a different character, making the bridge a place worth visiting at different times of the year.
One of the most distinctive attractions of Ueno Sky Bridge is its magical soap-bubble display.
From April through November, soap bubbles are released from the bridge approximately every 30 minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.. Each display lasts around 10 minutes, with up to 12 sessions per day.
Countless bubbles gently float through the air against the backdrop of the blue sky and surrounding mountains, creating an enchanting scene that feels almost like stepping into a storybook.
The display is held every day from late July through August. During other periods, it is mainly held on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
The event may be canceled in bad weather, so visitors are advised to check the latest conditions before their visit.
During winter, Ueno Sky Bridge takes on a completely different appearance as it is transformed into a spectacular illuminated space.
The Ueno Sky Bridge Illumination is held from around December through February and features approximately 900,000 LED lights, making it one of the largest illumination displays in Gunma Prefecture.
A tunnel of lights surrounds the bridge, while heart-shaped decorations and other illuminated objects create a romantic atmosphere. Walking through the glowing bridge can feel like strolling beneath a sky full of stars.
The winter display offers a completely different experience from visiting during the daytime and is popular with couples and families alike.
During the illumination period, private vehicles cannot enter the event area. Visitors should use the free shuttle bus operated from Michi-no-Eki Ueno.
