Miyama Limestone Cave

A Rare Three-Dimensional Labyrinth Cave

Miyama Limestone Cave is a large vertical limestone cave located in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. Formed over approximately 250 million years, the cave reaches a depth of 80 meters and extends across an area measuring about 160 meters from east to west and 130 meters from north to south.

Its halls and tunnels spread across six vertically stacked levels, creating a remarkable three-dimensional labyrinth. Designated a Natural Monument of Gujo City, Miyama Limestone Cave is an unusual geological formation rarely found elsewhere in the world.

The cave has a total length of approximately 2,000 meters, of which around 800 meters are open to the public. Its impressive scale and largely untouched natural formations make it a fascinating destination for visitors interested in geology and the wonders of the underground world.
