Miyagi Zao Eboshi Ski Resort

Miyagi’s Largest Ski Resort

Miyagi Zao Eboshi Ski Resort is a large mountain resort in Zao Town, Katta District, Miyagi Prefecture. It is one of the leading winter destinations in the prefecture and offers a wide range of activities for skiers and snowboarders.

The resort is also more than a winter sports destination. From spring through autumn, visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers, alpine plants, colorful foliage, hiking, and spectacular mountain views. This makes Eboshi Ski Resort an attractive destination throughout much of the year.

A Large Ski Area for All Levels

The ski area is the largest in Miyagi Prefecture and features 10 courses suitable for a wide range of abilities, from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders.

One of the highlights is the 4.3-kilometer-long course, which provides an especially satisfying run for visitors who want to enjoy a long descent through the mountain landscape.

Family-Friendly Kids Area

Families traveling with young children can enjoy a dedicated kids’ park. The area includes an approximately 80-meter snow escalator, a course exclusively for sledding, and snow slides.

With its variety of snow activities, the kids’ area feels like a small winter playground, allowing children to enjoy the snow even if they are not yet ready for skiing.

Ski and Snowboard School

The resort also offers a ski and snowboard school with lessons for different skill levels. Beginners can learn the fundamentals in a structured environment, while more experienced participants can work on improving their technique.

Snowboarding is also available at the resort, making it possible for groups with different interests and skill levels to enjoy the mountain together.

Winter Highlight: Eboshi Snow Fireworks Festival

One of the resort’s most spectacular winter events is the Eboshi Snow Fireworks Festival, held in late January.

Approximately 1,000 fireworks are launched over the snow-covered slopes in time with music, creating a dramatic combination of light and sound against the winter night sky.

Another highlight is a special descent by skiers carrying torches. The line of moving lights across the snowy slopes creates an atmospheric scene that is very different from daytime skiing.

Enjoy the Resort Beyond Winter

Miyagi Zao Eboshi Ski Resort transforms with the seasons. During the green season, the mountain becomes a destination for enjoying flowers, plants, hiking, autumn foliage, and panoramic views.

In spring, the slopes are covered with blooming daffodils. Early summer brings white azaleas and wildflowers, while alpine plants can be seen from early summer through summer.

In autumn, the surrounding mountains become covered in brilliant foliage. Seasonal events such as star-gazing evenings and imoni gatherings, a traditional Tohoku outdoor meal centered on a hearty taro stew, can also be enjoyed.

The gondola travels approximately 2 kilometers and provides access to scenic viewpoints. From the observation area, visitors can enjoy a broad panorama extending from Shiroishi City and its surrounding landscape toward the Oshika Peninsula.
