Five Zones with Different Experiences

The park is broadly divided into five zones, each offering a different combination of natural scenery, recreational facilities, and outdoor activities.

Recreation Zone

Sun Plaza

Sun Plaza is a spacious grassy area covering approximately 165,000 square meters. The open lawn is ideal for picnics, ball games, kite flying, and other outdoor activities.

From around mid-April to early May, approximately 50,000 azalea plants come into bloom, transforming the area into a colorful spring landscape.

Adventure Plaza

Adventure Plaza is a popular athletic area for children. Its highlight is a 109-meter-long roller slide with a height difference of approximately 25 meters.

The slide runs through the forest and provides an exciting ride before visitors continue through a course featuring 18 athletic play structures. It is a popular place for children and parents to enjoy an outdoor adventure together.

Momiji Plaza

Momiji Plaza is especially attractive during the autumn foliage season. Visitors can relax among trees changing into vivid seasonal colors while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the forest.

Municipal Forest

The Municipal Forest provides opportunities to experience and learn about Chiba’s natural environment. Walking through the woodland while enjoying the fresh forest air is a relaxing way to escape the bustle of the city.

Cycling Center

At the Cycling Center, visitors can rent bicycles and explore the park’s cycling course. The route includes gentle slopes, making it possible to enjoy a leisurely ride while feeling the breeze and taking in the surrounding scenery.

Observation Zone

The observation area is located at the highest point of the park, approximately 101 meters above sea level.

From the observation platform, visitors can look across the Kujukuri Plain toward the Pacific Ocean. On New Year’s Day, the area becomes especially popular with people who come to watch the first sunrise of the year rising over the Pacific.

Central Forest Zone

The Central Forest Zone is a beautiful area for enjoying seasonal flowers. Facilities include a cherry blossom viewing area, plum grove, Japanese iris garden, and hydrangea garden.

From spring through summer, the landscape changes continuously as different flowers come into bloom.

Flower Field

The approximately 2,800-square-meter Flower Field is filled with seasonal flowers. In spring, rapeseed flowers create a bright yellow landscape, while cosmos flowers cover the field in autumn.

The broad flower beds can resemble a colorful carpet and are popular with visitors who enjoy photography and peaceful walks.

Cherry Blossom Plaza

Cherry Blossom Plaza covers approximately 25,000 square meters and contains around 200 cherry trees. The main flowering period is generally from late March through mid-April.

A variety of cherry tree cultivars are planted throughout the area, giving the landscape different colors and shapes as the trees bloom.

Accommodation and Outdoor Activity Zone

The Accommodation and Outdoor Activity Zone is ideal for visitors who want to spend more time in nature.

In 2014, a former youth hostel was renovated and reopened as Showa no Mori Forest Village. The facility combines comfortable amenities with the natural setting of the park.

Campground

The campground offers several styles of camping, including auto-camping sites, free camping sites, and grassy sites.

Camping equipment can also be rented, making the campground accessible even to visitors who are new to camping.

BBQ Area

The reservation-based BBQ area allows families and friends to enjoy outdoor cooking together. Plans are also available for visitors who prefer a hands-free BBQ experience without bringing their own equipment.

Its setting within the park allows visitors to enjoy sports while surrounded by trees and open natural scenery.

Ogyu-michi Archaeological Site

Excavations carried out in 1976 uncovered a circular burial mound from the late Kofun period, along with the remains of buildings dating from the Nara and Heian periods.

There is also a theory that the site may have been connected with the remains of an ancient shrine. Today, the archaeological site is preserved as a place where visitors can learn about the area’s long history.

Barrier-Free Facilities

Showa no Mori has introduced a range of barrier-free facilities to make the park more accessible.

Facilities include wheelchair-accessible toilets, ramps, and designated parking spaces for visitors with disabilities. These features help people with different mobility needs enjoy the park more comfortably.
