Yoshino Coast is located on the southeastern side of Miyako Island, close to the island’s easternmost point. It is widely known as one of the island’s most popular destinations for snorkeling, thanks to the extensive coral reefs that lie just offshore.
From the white sandy beach, visitors can step into the remarkably clear water and, after only a few steps, discover a fascinating underwater world. Coral formations of many different shapes spread across the shallow seabed, creating an almost maze-like landscape beneath the surface.
At high tide, colorful tropical fish emerge from the spaces between the coral. Clownfish can often be seen among the rocks, while larger fish may also appear in the surrounding waters.
Swimming through the shallow sea while surrounded by tropical fish creates an unforgettable experience. Because the coral reef extends through relatively shallow water and helps reduce the force of the waves, the beach is considered suitable for beginners and families as well as experienced snorkelers.
Yoshino Coast is also a place where sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. This makes the beach an especially valuable coastal habitat as well as a popular destination for marine recreation.
The coral reef is a fragile living ecosystem, however. Stepping on coral can damage or kill it, so visitors should take care not to stand on the reef while swimming or snorkeling.
Do not climb onto the coral or deliberately touch marine life. By observing the underwater world without disturbing it, visitors can help protect the natural environment that makes Yoshino Coast so special.
The beach lies below a steep coastal cliff. After descending a relatively sharp slope, visitors arrive at approximately 500 meters of sandy beach stretching along the clear waters.
A paid parking area at the top of the cliff provides restrooms, showers, and changing facilities. A shuttle bus also carries visitors from the parking area down to the beach, making the steep descent easier.
There is another parking area near the bottom of the slope, but the number of spaces there is limited.
Yoshino Coast is not simply a beautiful place for swimming and snorkeling. Its coral reefs provide an important habitat for marine life and are an essential part of the natural character of Miyako Island.
The vivid contrast between the white sand, transparent tropical water, and living coral creates a landscape that visitors will want to see preserved for generations to come.
Enjoy the sea gently and responsibly, and let the coral reefs and marine life remain undisturbed for future visitors.
With colorful fish appearing just offshore, shallow coral gardens beneath crystal-clear water, and the possibility of encountering sea turtles, Yoshino Coast offers one of the most memorable snorkeling experiences on Miyako Island.
For travelers seeking to experience the vibrant marine life of Okinawa in a beautiful natural setting, Yoshino Coast is a destination not to be missed.
