Nishihenna-zaki Cape (West Hennazaki)

A Spectacular Cape at the Northwestern Tip of Miyako Island

Nishihenna-zaki Cape is a scenic cape extending northwest from Karimata Fishing Port at the northwestern tip of Miyako Island. Located about 10 kilometers north of central Hirara, it can be reached by car in approximately 20 minutes, making it an easy destination for enjoying the island’s spectacular coastal scenery.

A Panoramic View of the Emerald-Green Sea

The tip of the cape has been developed as a park, with a walking path leading through the scenic landscape. Three wind turbines stand prominently on the cape, forming one of its most recognizable landmarks, with an observation deck nearby.

The two-story observation deck offers an impressive 360-degree panorama. On clear days, visitors can see Ikema Island and Ikema Ohashi Bridge to the north, Irabu Island to the southwest, and Ogami Island to the east. The brilliant emerald-green sea stretching in every direction creates an unforgettable tropical landscape.

Miyako Horses and the Natural Landscape

The middle section of the cape is home to grazing Miyako horses, one of Japan’s rarest native breeds of small horse. Known for their gentle temperament, these horses are especially popular with children and add a distinctive pastoral character to the coastal scenery.

The coastline is characterized by rocky shores and exceptionally clear water. Beyond the rocks, beautiful coral reefs can be seen beneath the surface, offering a glimpse of the rich marine environment surrounding Miyako Island.

A Beautiful Place to Watch the Sunset

Because Nishihenna-zaki Cape faces west, it is also a popular destination for watching the sunset. As the sun sinks toward the horizon, the surrounding sea and rocky coastline are bathed in warm colors, creating a particularly memorable view.

Enjoy a Scenic Walk Along the Cape

A walking path of approximately 2 kilometers runs through Nishihenna-zaki Cape. The route allows visitors to enjoy not only the ocean views but also the natural scenery of Miyako Island at a leisurely pace.

With its panoramic viewpoints, distinctive wind turbines, gentle Miyako horses, coral-rich coastline, and spectacular sunsets, Nishihenna-zaki Cape is an excellent place to experience the natural beauty of northern Miyako Island. A relaxed walk along the cape is a wonderful way to appreciate the island’s open skies and brilliant tropical sea.
