A Convenient Base for Exploring Oze

Oze Tokura is one of the major gateways to Oze National Park. Oze is a vast natural area extending across Gunma, Fukushima, Niigata, and Tochigi prefectures. It was designated as Oze National Park in 2007.

The area is famous for its beautiful alpine plants, including Asian skunk cabbage, Nikko daylilies, and cottongrass. Well-maintained wooden boardwalks make it possible for visitors to enjoy walks through the wetlands while experiencing the area’s distinctive natural environment.

Oze Tokura is conveniently located for access to Hatomachi Pass and the Oshimizu trailhead. From spring through autumn, the area becomes a base for visitors hiking and exploring Oze, while winter brings skiers and snowboarders.

A Variety of Accommodation and a Welcoming Hot Spring Town

The hot spring district stretches along National Route 401 and is home to approximately 30 to 40 inns, guesthouses, and pensions. Many of these accommodations draw hot spring water directly from local sources and offer their own distinctive bathing experiences.

Examples include Hotel Tamakuriya, which is conveniently located near the bus stop, as well as Onsen Minshuku Issen and Onsen Yado Shikitei, both known for their welcoming, home-like atmosphere. Other accommodations are known for cuisine prepared with local ingredients.

These lodgings serve as convenient bases for exploring Oze, enjoying winter sports, and taking part in sports training camps.

Day-Use Hot Springs and Tourist Information

One of the central facilities in Oze Tokura is Oze Purari-kan. The facility houses a tourist information center and the Oze Nature Center, making it a useful place to gather information before exploring Oze.

It also includes Tokura-no-Yu, a day-use hot spring facility offering baths supplied directly from the source. It is a popular place to stop after hiking or during a scenic drive through the area.

A Base for Sports and Recreation

The Oze Tokura area also has sports facilities, including baseball fields, soccer fields, and tennis courts. During summer, the cool highland climate and rich natural surroundings make the area a popular destination for sports training camps.

Students and adult sports teams can make use of the refreshing mountain environment while concentrating on training and practice.

In winter, ski resorts such as Snow Park Oze Tokura are located nearby. Some lodges and hotels are conveniently situated close to the slopes, allowing visitors to enjoy skiing and snowboarding with easy access to the lifts and ski areas.

With outdoor activities available throughout the year, Oze Tokura can be enjoyed as a versatile mountain resort destination in every season.
