Neo Falls

A Mysterious and Magnificent Waterfall Known Since the Edo Period

Located in Hida-Osaka at the foot of Mount Ontake, which rises to 3,067 meters, Neo Falls is one of the area’s most celebrated natural attractions. Hida-Osaka is known for its abundant rainfall, steep mountain streams, and extensive forests. With more than 200 waterfalls measuring at least five meters in height, it is recognized as one of Japan’s leading destinations for waterfall scenery.

Among these many waterfalls, Neo Falls stands out for its impressive scale and natural beauty. It plunges approximately 63 meters and is about 5 meters wide. Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls, it cascades dramatically down a massive cliff of pyroxene andesite, creating a powerful and awe-inspiring spectacle.

Dramatic Cliffs and Volcanic Scenery

As visitors approach the waterfall, they can also admire Amadori Rock, an enormous cliff formed from volcanic lava. The rugged rock formations, rushing water, and surrounding forest create a striking landscape shaped by the region’s volcanic history.

The journey to Neo Falls offers a rewarding experience for nature lovers and hikers, with opportunities to appreciate the pristine mountain environment and the distinctive geological features of Hida-Osaka.

Seasonal Access and Safety

The walking trails and road beyond the entrance to Gan-date Park are closed during winter. Entry into the restricted area is prohibited during this period, so visitors should take care to observe all closure notices and safety instructions.
