Yunotsu Onsen Yakushi Yu

Highest rated source of hot spring water

This public bathhouse is located in Yunotsu, a World Heritage Site and the only hot spring resort in Japan designated as an important traditional building preservation district.

The Yunotsu Onsen is said to have opened as long ago as 1,300 years ago, and legend has it that a great raccoon dog was discovered bathing in the hot spring. The name “Yunotsu” means “port with hot spring” in Japanese.

It has long been known for its high efficacy. The spring is a sodium-sodium salt spring, which is clear when it gushes out, but turns light brown in the bathtub. In addition to bathing, drinking the spring is also effective, and the taste is slightly bitter and astringent.

Yakushi-yu has been certified by the Japan Hot Springs Association as a natural hot spring with the highest rating of “all 5” in all categories.

It is a naturally gushing spring that began gushing after the earthquake that occurred in 1872, and the temperature of the gushing spring is about 46 degrees Celsius. It is a 100% genuine free-flowing hot spring that is poured into the bathtub without any modification.

The bathtubs are covered with hot water spores that look like flowing lava.
After taking a bath, you can enjoy a cup of coffee on the rooftop garden terrace with a view of Yunotsu.
