Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is a world-famous theme park located in Konohana Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. Specific visitor figures have not been publicly released since fiscal 2016. According to the TEA/AECOM 2022 Theme Index and Museum Index, however, estimated attendance in 2022 was approximately 12.35 million visitors, placing USJ among the world’s largest theme parks.
USJ has continued to expand its attractions and themed areas. Universal Wonderland, a family-friendly area, opened in 2012, followed by Minion Park in 2017. In 2014, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ was introduced, bringing the world of the Harry Potter films to life.

A new area inspired by Donkey Kong has also been introduced as an expansion of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, providing another experience for Nintendo and video game fans.
USJ is divided into multiple themed areas, including the entrance area. Each section recreates streetscapes inspired by cities in the United States and locations from famous movies and entertainment franchises. Walking through the park can feel like stepping directly into a movie set.
Located immediately beyond the park entrance, the Hollywood Area recreates the glamorous atmosphere of Hollywood Boulevard during the 1930s and 1940s, when numerous movie stars walked its streets.
Buildings inspired by movie sets, including locations associated with films such as Pretty Woman, line the streets and help recreate the atmosphere of classic Hollywood.
This area recreates the streets of New York during the 1930s. From the elegant atmosphere of Fifth Avenue to the more local character of Delancey Street, visitors can experience a variety of historic New York streetscapes.
The San Francisco Area recreates famous parts of the American port city, including Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown. The combination of a lively waterfront atmosphere and international influences creates a distinctive setting.
This area faithfully recreates the world of Jurassic Park. Visitors can explore a lush jungle environment and experience the excitement of being surrounded by dinosaurs.
Amity Village recreates the quiet fishing community from the movie Jaws. Beneath its peaceful village atmosphere lies a sense of danger, creating an exciting contrast between everyday scenery and movie-inspired thrills.
This area is inspired by the futuristic floating settlement featured in WaterWorld. Its weathered maritime atmosphere and spectacular water-based stunt show make it one of the park’s memorable entertainment experiences.
Opened on March 16, 2012, Universal Wonderland is a family-friendly area designed around a town inhabited by globally popular characters such as Elmo, Snoopy, and Hello Kitty.
The area was developed through a series of transformations, evolving from the original Western Area and later the Land of Oz into its current family-oriented setting.
Opened on July 15, 2014, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ recreates the world of the Harry Potter series on a grand scale, with extraordinary attention to detail.
The area was supervised and designed by members of the same art and design teams involved with the films. Locations such as Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village are recreated in detail, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the magical world.
Among the area’s popular attractions is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™.
Opened on April 21, 2017, Minion Park is themed around the mischievous and adorable Minions from the Despicable Me series.
It is known for having one of the largest Minion Park areas in the world and offers attractions and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Opened on March 18, 2021, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ recreates the world of Nintendo’s video games, particularly the Super Mario series. It was the first area of its kind in the world.
The project was reportedly developed with an investment exceeding 60 billion yen, surpassing the investment associated with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Characters such as Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach appear throughout the area, while familiar game elements such as Peach’s Castle, blocks, and coins are recreated in the real world. The result is an experience that feels like stepping directly into a video game.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has been expanded with Donkey Kong Country, a new area inspired by the world of Donkey Kong. The expansion adds another immersive experience for fans of Nintendo and its iconic game characters.

Introduced in 2016, XR Ride combines a roller coaster with VR goggles, allowing visitors to experience the world of a featured franchise while riding through an immersive virtual environment.
The experience has been associated with Space Fantasy – The Ride. Modern VR goggles provide clear imagery and can also be worn over regular eyeglasses.
Introduced in 2022, XR Walk allows visitors to walk freely through a facility while wearing VR equipment and experiencing the world of a featured franchise.
