Senganenen was a villa of the Shimadzu family built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa, the 19th generation of the Shimadzu family.
It is a beautiful garden of a feudal lord loved by Nariakira, the 28th generation of the Shimazu family, and was visited by Princess Atsuhime and Takamori Saigo.
The garden, which covers an area of about 15,000 tsubo, is filled with seasonal flowers and hosts a variety of events that bring the traditions of the samurai classics to life.
There are also a variety of restaurants and cafes serving local cuisine, as well as stores selling a wide range of items representative of Kagoshima.
The entire park area is registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the “Industrial Revolutionary Heritage of Meiji Japan.
