Cha Cha World Ishikoshi is a nature-filled amusement park in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture. Surrounded by lush greenery and seasonal flowers, the park offers a variety of attractions and outdoor activities that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
The park was opened on April 29, 1995, as part of a regional revitalization project undertaken by the former Ishikoshi Town. Today, visitors can enjoy walking trails, picnic areas, athletic playground equipment, amusement rides, and seasonal gardens in a relaxing natural setting.
One of the park’s highlights is its hydrangea garden, which comes into full bloom in early summer. Cherry blossoms and colorful azaleas also add seasonal beauty to the grounds, making the park enjoyable throughout much of the year.
Cha Cha World Ishikoshi features a wide selection of attractions, ranging from gentle rides suitable for young children to activities that families can enjoy together. The combination of amusement rides and outdoor play areas gives visitors plenty of ways to spend an entire day.
Fluffy Rescue and Fluffy Land offer soft, bouncy spaces where children can play actively. Other attractions include Little Octopus, a dinosaur ride, and the Spider Tower.
Visitors can also explore the Magic House, ride the Choo-Choo Train, or experience the Ghost House. Family-friendly rides include Turn Bumper, EV go-karts, EV trains, a mountain railway, melody pets, trampolines, and kids’ boats.
Additional attractions include Animal Land, a 3D Theater, Jurassic Shooting, air slides, battery-powered cars, fancy cycles, and a water wheel.
With such a broad selection, younger children can enjoy gentle rides while older children and adults can choose more active and interactive attractions.
The site was originally part of a satoyama landscape, the traditional Japanese countryside where forests, farmland, and local communities have long existed in close relationship.
Nearby was an area known as Takamori Park, a community forest. The land was not initially well maintained, so local residents began planting hydrangeas. The flowers grew exceptionally well in the area, eventually inspiring the town to develop the site as a destination known for its hydrangeas.
Outdoor recreational facilities were also added, creating the foundation for what would eventually become Cha Cha World Ishikoshi.
The development of the park was closely connected with Japan’s Furusato Creation Project, a regional revitalization program introduced during the administration of Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita.
Ishikoshi Town received ¥100 million in government funding through the program. After conducting a survey of local residents, the town decided to expand Takamori Park and develop it into a major tourism attraction.
At the time, Ishikoshi had relatively few major tourist attractions, so the project was seen as an ambitious attempt to increase the town’s profile and attract visitors.
The basic development plan took shape in 1991, and approximately 20 hectares of land were developed. When the park opened in 1995, approximately ¥2 billion had been invested, an amount comparable to the town’s annual budget at the time.
After opening, additional rides and facilities were introduced, including go-karts, a thriller house, the Choo-Choo Train, and a merry-go-round. The park gradually developed from a nature-oriented recreational facility into a full-fledged amusement park.
In 2017, the park temporarily closed while construction work was carried out for a municipal park golf course.
It reopened after renovation in April 2019, with new attractions incorporating modern technology. One example is Jurassic Shooting, which uses augmented reality technology to create an interactive dinosaur-themed experience.
This combination of the area’s natural setting with newer forms of entertainment allows Cha Cha World Ishikoshi to preserve its original character while continuing to offer new experiences.
The Hydrangea Garden is one of the park’s most attractive seasonal features. Approximately 30,000 hydrangea plants representing around 70 varieties are planted throughout the grounds.
The flowers generally reach their best viewing period from late June to early July. During this time, the park becomes a colorful landscape filled with hydrangeas in different shapes and shades.
The garden provides a pleasant complement to the amusement attractions and is particularly appealing to visitors who enjoy photography and seasonal Japanese scenery.
Admission to Cha Cha World Ishikoshi is free. Visitors pay separately when using individual rides and attractions.
A ride ticket costs ¥100 per ticket, or ¥1,000 for a book of 11 tickets.
All-day attraction passes are also available. The prices are ¥1,500 for preschool children, ¥2,200 for elementary school students, and ¥2,500 for junior high school students and older. Passes are valid only on the day of purchase.
April–September: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
October–March: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The park is generally closed on Tuesdays. When Tuesday is a public holiday, the following day is closed instead. During the summer vacation period, the park is open every day.
The park has a winter closure from December 24 until the day before the first Sunday of March.
Operating hours, closure periods, and attraction availability may change, so visitors should check the latest information before planning their trip.
The name “Cha Cha” is a coined expression inspired by the English word “Child.” It represents both children and the idea that adults can also return to a carefree, childlike state while enjoying the park.
The name was selected through a public naming competition. At the entrance, the park’s name is displayed as “ChaChaWORLD.”
At one point, a second phase of development was planned for the park. The proposed expansion included a restaurant building, a grass buggy area, and cottages where visitors could stay overnight.
However, the second phase was ultimately cancelled for financial reasons. Some traces of the original plan can still be found around the grounds, including certain information signs and electrical equipment that hint at facilities that were never completed.
These remnants provide an interesting glimpse into the history of the park’s development and the ambitious plans that accompanied its creation.
Cha Cha World Ishikoshi is a family-friendly destination where amusement, outdoor recreation, and the natural beauty of the Japanese countryside come together.
Children can enjoy a wide range of rides and playground attractions, while adults can relax among the greenery, explore the seasonal gardens, or enjoy a picnic. The 30,000 hydrangeas in early summer, along with spring cherry blossoms and colorful azaleas, add a distinctly Japanese seasonal atmosphere to the park.
For families traveling through Miyagi Prefecture, Cha Cha World Ishikoshi offers an easygoing way to combine outdoor play, amusement rides, seasonal flowers, and a glimpse of rural Japanese life in one destination.
